Solar Energy or Wind Energy?

Why not both?

clock.jpgBecause the sun doesn't shine at night and the wind rarely blows hard enough during the day, availability is clearly an issue on both sides. However, researchers and engineers are finding ways to allow solar and wind energy users to buy energy during times they are lacking from none other than... each other!

A project has been proposed to connect all three of the United States' major power grids to work with all major areas of different available green energies. The hub will be able to send solar energy to, say, Chicago from the deserts and wind energy from rural Iowa to the urban hot spot, Los Angeles.

No longer will low availability of these precious, earth saving renewable resources in urban areas be a problem! As researchers work to make the Tres Amigas work together, green energy hopefuls begin to breath a sigh of relief. Nation wide renewable energy may finally be here to stay!

Rainy season has hit the tropical paradise of Panama pretty hard this year, with daily rain showers that create traffic jams and cancel soccer practice. Another thing that these rains bring is increased runoff into the many rivers and streams in the country. The seasonal streams are trickling and streaming again, and some people are thinking about how they might take advantage of this extra water for energy!
